What does a school librarian do?
Today's school librarian works with both students and teachers to facilitate access to information in a wide variety of formats, instruct students and teachers on how to acquire, evaluate and use information and the technology needed in this process and introduces children and young adults to literature and other resources to broaden their horizons. As a collaborator, change agent, and leader, the school librarian develops, promotes, and implements a program that will help prepare students to be effective users of ideas and information, a lifelong skill.
Media specialists work with all types of audio-visual equipment in schools, libraries, and businesses. Depending on the setting, they teach others how to use various multimedia and recording equipment for presentations, classroom lectures, or meetings. They are also responsible for setting up equipment.
I have been happily married to my husband, Ronnie, for 24 years. We have two wonderful daughters, Dani and Alex, who are on course in their lives and careers. We also have our sweet dog, Abby.
I have been in education for nearly 20 years. I started as a media specialist in Macon, Ga. at Miller Magnet Middle School. When my husband and I moved to Carrollton, I became a provisional teacher at Bay Springs Middle School and went back to school to get my certification in English Language Arts and Social Studies. I then worked as a certified teacher at Bay Springs. I have been at Bay Springs for nearly 20 years, and I absolutely love it!
