I'm so excited for the 2021-2022 school year at Bay Springs to begin. For those of you who have a 6th grader, I know this is a very anxious, yet exciting, time. Read this blog post written by a middle school teacher HERE It includes some tips you can use to help your child be ready for 6th grade. I can't wait to meet all of our new Wildcats!!!
My name is Kristen Sumner. I grew up and currently live in Heard County. I enjoy reading, watching anything on HGTV or the Food Network, and spending time with my family. My favorite places are the beach, New Orleans, and Walt Disney World. I've been married to my husband, Dathan, for 23 years. My oldest daughter, Shealynn, married her childhood sweetheart in June and is a 1st year teacher. She wll be teaching 1st & 2nd grade Math/Science/Social Studies in Meriwether County. My youngest daughter, Kayleigh, graduated from VRHS in May 2021. We have a dog named Tessa, and 2 rescue cats- Kippers and Luna.
I began my teaching career at BSMS in 2015. This year marks my 7th year here at BSMS. I have taught both 6th & 8th grade ELA; I currently teach 6th grade ELA & Literature both Resource and Co-Taught. I strive to provide students with the opportunity to utilize real world reading skills and applications in addition to the traditional academic standards. I hope to instill a love of reading and writing in my students. I believe all students can be successful if given support, encouragement, and are willing to do their best each day.
